Posed vs Lifestyle Newborn Photoshoot - Which should I choose?
The best way to understand the difference between a posed and a lifestyle newborn photoshoot is to check out the galleries below. As you can see, there is a big difference in the style of the photos and which you choose, comes down to which photos you personally prefer. Or, if like many other clients you love both styles, you can opt for a package that offers both.
Posed Newborn Photoshoot
A posed newborn photoshoot is a form of fine-art photography, which aims to capture stunning portraits of your newborn baby in a number of different poses. Posed newborn photoshoots often include a selection of props, blankets, backdrops and outfits, which parents can select from, in order to personalise the session to their particular preferences and desires. Posed newborn photos are highly edited and include skin retouching, to ensure a beautiful fine-art finish to every photo.
Posed newborn photoshoots often take place in a studio, however, at Carlene Thurston Photography all newborn photoshoots take place in the client's home, to minimise the disruption to the new baby and parents. All props and equipment required are brought to the client's home, to ensure that the whole experience is as stress-free and easy as possible. Plus during the session, new parents can just sit back and relax and make the most of a few hours of much needed relaxation, in the comfort of their own home.
Lifestyle Newborn Photoshoot
A lifestyle photoshoot is the perfect way to capture, both beautiful natural photos of your new baby, as well as wonderful memories of those first weeks and months of your new family. This photoshoot aims to record all those gorgeous tiny baby details, as well as 'real' family moments; early bonds and connections; and precious memories of 'family life' with your newborn baby in your own home. These photoshoots are completely relaxed and natural. There are no props or set poses - just a little bit of guidance throughout to ensure that we get perfect family photos that you will treasure forever.
When to book?
A posed newborn photoshoot should ideally take place in the first 2 weeks after birth, when baby's are extremely sleepy, not easily disturbed and are still happy to be positioned in womb-like poses. Due to the narrow booking window, it is advisable to book the session as early as possible - around 7 -10 days after your due date is ideal. But don't worry if things change - as a newborn photographer it's really important to be flexible - so there's always space in my diary for rescheduling, should the need arise. Just keep me up to date with any changes as soon as possible, so that I can jiggle my diary and fit you in. If for some reason, you're unable to book in for the posed session in the first 2 weeks, don't worry, it's still possible to do a posed session after this - baby may just be a little more awake and alert which may alter the poses we can get.
The timing of a lifestyle newborn photoshoot is far more flexible and depends on personal preference. If you want memories of how tiny the baby is when newborn and want to capture all those tiny newborn details then book the session in the first few weeks, but bare in mind that baby is likely to be asleep in most of the photos and that you may not be feeling your best just yet. On the other hand if you would prefer to feel a little more 'human' and want the baby to be awake in a lot of the photos then you may want to book the session around 4-6 weeks.
