How lucky are we to have the Arabian desert on our doorstep and to be able to choose this stunning backdrop for our family photoshoots?
The desert's picturesque landscape is not the only thing that makes it perfect for a family photoshoot - the best part about it is that kids absolutely it. They love the freedom of being able to run and jump and play; they love all the fun things they get to do with mum and dad, like family races down sand dunes, piggy-backs on dad and dancing and twirling with mum; and they love that for most of it they are in control (or so it seems!). And because they're having the best time- you not only have wonderful memories but you also have beautiful natural family photos.
Saying goodbye to Dubai
This lovely family will leave Dubai this summer and return to Ireland after 12 years in the Emirate and they wanted a desert photoshoot before they left as a memory of their time here and so that their young daughter's could see the beautiful place they briefly called home. Baby Celine was only four weeks old at the time of the photoshoot and her little sister Mia is just 2 years old, so one day when they're older they will get to look at these photos and see the exotic place they once called home.
Can I do a desert photoshoot with a baby or a toddler?
Clients often ask me whether their child is too young for a desert photoshoot and I tell them that it's suitable for all ages, so long as it's not too hot or too windy, because just like their older siblings baby's also love being out in the fresh air and getting lots of cuddles and attention from mum and dad. I've done lots of desert photoshoots with baby's, toddlers and young children and they have all loved it.
When is the best time to do a desert photoshoot?
The best time for a desert family photoshoot is between November and May and a few hours before sunset. The setting sun over the dunes is absolutely stunning and the temperature is usually perfect. Because of the narrow time frame in which we can shoot, winter weekend slots book up fast, especially during December, so if you're hoping to do a desert photoshoot this winter make sure you book in early to avoid disappointment (quite a few weekends have already gone for October - December 2022).

We had a wonderful experience with Carlene recently. We did a desert photoshoot with my 2 year old and 4 week old baby. Carlene was very calm and let the my little girl lead. Taking photos of a 2 year old isn't easy but Carlene made the process really fun and relaxed. The photos are beyond amazing, I couldn't have been happier with them.
